A daughter's request

On June 11th, 1893 Charles Spurgeon preached a sermon entitled, Achsah's Asking, a Pattern of Prayer. I found this on bible.org after studying this passage in Judges 1. Achsah goes to her father, Caleb, and asks him for springs of water to go with the land he has given as her dowry. It is a beautiful story about a father/daughter relationship and the joy of giving and receiving.

Spurgeon eloquently puts it this way,

"Desires written in your heart by the Holy Ghost will all of them be fulfilled. Many fathers would quite as soon that their children did not tell them all their wants; in fact, the fewer their wants, the better pleased will their parents be; but our Father in heaven feels a pleasure in giving to us all we need, for giving does not impoverish him, and withholding would not enrich him. He as much delights to give as the sun delights to shine. It is the very element of God to be scattering bounties. Come, then, and pray to him; thou wilt thus please him more than thou wilt please thyself."

I don't know about you, but that is very encouraging to me! Today, my main prayer to my Father is for wisdom in balancing priorities and time commitments. God has placed a new ministry of dance and teaching in my lap and I greatly desire to do it with all my heart, but I know that that does not mean with all my time. My children and my husband have all of my heart as well and I know what God has called me to do, he will enable me to do for His glory.

This makes me happy in the confidence of His awesome knowledge and ability. I know his timing is perfect and I am determined to walk beside him today and go at his pace. It seems he has given me this great land of marriage, motherhood and dance, but I am requesting the springs of water - energy, wisdom (the Holy Spirit!) - as well.
